Although born in Dublin in 1941 Michael Craig-Martin grew up and was educated in the United States of America studying Fine art at Yale University School of Art before moving to London in 1966.

Professor of Fine Arts in Goldsmiths College, London, in the 1980s and 1990s, Craig-Martin was a key influence on the YBA generation of artists—Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, Sarah Lucas, and many more.
